Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (September 19, 2014) – CymSTAR announced today that it has been awarded the USMC AV-8B Training Systems Concurrency and Technology Upgrade contract to modify the Maintenance Training Devices (MTD) and Radar/Night Attack Weapon System Trainers (RNAWST) at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina and MCAS Yuma, AZ. The AV-8B Harrier II is a single engine, vertical take-off and landing ground attack aircraft for austere combat locations.
In September 2013, CymSTAR and their teaming partner, Nova Technologies, completed a prior 3-year contract to design, test, and implement mechanical, electrical, and software aircraft concurrency modifications to the Host computer and Instructor Operator Station for the 11H94 Avionics, 11H95 Electrical, and 11H98 Armament MTDs.
“To provide the Government with the lowest risk for this AV-8B Upgrade, CymSTAR and Nova will significantly enhance the same program management and engineering team from our prior contract with additional talent from both companies,” says John Corder, CymSTAR CEO and President. “By utilizing our existing, non-proprietary commercial off-the-shelf and open source solutions from other projects for this upgrade, we will significantly reduce non-recurring engineering and improve long-term supportability.”
CymSTAR will update eight MTDs by replacing or upgrading several major simulation subsystems to include the Host Computer, Aural Cue System, Real Time Input/Output System, the Forward Looking Infrared/Radar Video Computer, Flight Control Computer, Software Support Environment, and Ethernet connectivity. All computers will be compliant with the latest Information Assurance directives and requirements.
The contract also requires H.6.1 Operational Flight Program updates to the 11H94 Avionics, 11H95 Electrical, and 11H98 Armament MTDs, and five 2F150F RNAWST aircrew trainers. These OFP updates will enable the Mission System Computer, Warfare Management Computer, and Display Computers to be concurrent with the aircraft. The RNAWSTs will also be upgraded with new Image Generators to accommodate changes for the Maverick Weapons and Generation 4 Advanced Targeting LITENING Pod.
